Jamaal Williams

Running back, BYU

The Colts know that Frank Gore is not going to play forever. In fact, 2016 is likely the last season for Frank the tank. The Colts signed Robert Turbin this offseason, and he was a decent surprise in the passing game for the Colts last season. However, being a backup, and a player who can make splash plays is really the upside of Turbin and they cannot turn to him for life after Gore.

The Colts are likely to draft a running back at some point in this draft to try to find a replacement, and this may be the sweet spot. This draft is extremely deep when it comes to running back talent. The Colts could jump on a player in the first round, but with so many other holes they could let the board come to them and find a gem in the fourth round.

Williams is an example of a gem. If there is one word to describe the way he runs that word would be mean. Williams is always running hard, and he is a downhill in the box runner for sure. However, he has surprising elusiveness and footwork, giving him an ability to squeeze through tight holes in the box, and become a terror in the secondary. Williams was limited in the passing game and has some holes to fill out, but in the fourth round, the Colts may be able to find their running back of the future. It does not get better than that.
