2017 NFL Mock Draft: Myles Garrett leads the way
By Brad Weiss
The New York Jets made a semi-big splash on Monday, signing veteran quarterback Josh McCown to a one-year deal. The thought all along was that the team would not draft a quarterback high in this draft, as they are still figuring out what to do with Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty. The signing of McCown means they will try to grow those two young quarterbacks for one more season, with their eyes on drafting a franchise guy in a loaded 2018 NFL Draft class at the position.
During the offseason, the team has said goodbye to some huge names on their roster. Wide receiver Brandon Marshall, center Nick Mangold, and cornerback Darrelle Revis have all be let go by the team, as they enter a rebuilding phase. At corner, the team signed Morris Claiborne to fill the vacancy left by Revis, but they should still look to draft that position with the sixth-overall pick in April.
Marcus Lattimore has the kind of talent that coaches drool over, and he comes into this draft as the premier player at a premier position. It is so important to be strong at cornerback, and adding Lattimore to the fold in New York will make that position a strength once again in 2017. Lattimore will eventually develop into a Pro Bowl player for the Jets, who need to stockpile young talent as much as they can.
