Team USA made history with a big win against Team Japan in the 2017 World Baseball Classic semifinal game.

Team USA is going to the championship game of the World Baseball Classic for the first time in history after defeating Team Japan 2-1 in Tuesday night’s semifinal game.

It was a wet night in Los Angeles, and the wet weather might have played a big role in the outcome of the game as Team USA faced off against an as yet undefeated Team Japan. The Japanese team is known for strong pitching and a measured approach the game.

It was Andrew McCutchen who drove in Christian Yelich in the fourth inning after an error by Ryosuke Kikuchi. Kikuchi got his revenge later on in the bottom of the sixth inning when he sent the ball over the wall to tie the game at 1-1. Team USA took the lead in the eighth inning when Adam Jones hit a grounder to bring in Brandon Crawford, and that was all Team USA needed.

Team USA took out reigning World Baseball Classic champion Team Dominican Republic in Saturday night’s Pool F championship game, earning them a spot in the semifinals. Puerto Rico defeated the Netherlands in Monday’s first semifinal game and they will face off on Wednesday in the championship game.

The World Baseball Classic has been growing in popularity in recent years, perhaps due to baseball’s departure from the Olympics. However, this year’s World Baseball Classic will serve as a preview to the 2020 Summer Olympics when baseball makes its triumphant return.

Social media went nuts over Tuesday’s semifinal game as fans tuned in to watch Team USA try to make history. When the final out was recorded, Twitter went nuts.
