Cleveland Browns: Myles Garrett

The Cleveland Browns can’t possibly mess this up, but that’s what they tend to do with their first round picks. Not to say that general manager Sashi Brown and chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta’s jobs are on the line, but the Browns need to do the right thing and take Texas A&M Aggies defensive end Myles Garrett with the No. 1 overall pick.

Garrett is the consensus No. 1 player entering the 2017 NFL Draft. He starred in the SEC during his three seasons with the Aggies. Garrett had 141 total tackles, 47.0 for a loss of yardage and 31.0 quarterback sacks in 34 games for Texas A&M.

He improved every season at College Station, taking defensive coordinator John Chavis’ coaching in stride. Garrett projects as a potential Pro Bowl coming off the edge, either as a 3-4 outside linebacker or a 4-3 defensive end. Scheme fit is not going to dictate how productive he will be at the next level.

The only other semi-logical move for the Browns to make at No. 1 would be to draft a franchise quarterback. Taking either Clemson Tigers quarterback Deshaun Watson or North Carolina Tar Heels quarterback Mitchell Trubisky wouldn’t be the best use of the No. 1 overall pick, but Cleveland really. needs a quarterback.

Since they are not getting the heir apparent to Bernie Kosar in this draft, the Browns better take Garrett at No. 1 and focus on the rest of their draft. This should be a no-brainer selection if there ever was one. Do the right thing, Browns.
