Positional Power Rankings: 30 best point guards in the NBA
By Connor Learn
Kyle Lowry is the Toronto Raptors rock. He leads the league in minutes per game, and his steadying presence helped the Raptors have one of the best extended runs in franchise history. Lowry and DeMar DeRozan help form one of the league’s best backcourts, and were the biggest reason why Toronto was primed to make a run for the top of the Eastern Conference until Lowry injured his wrist. The Raptors have fallen to fourth in the East in Lowry’s absence and should feel thankful that they employ one of the league’s better backup point guards in Cory Joseph.
Lowry was playing perhaps the best basketball of his career despite turning 30 this season. He has averaged a career-highs in points and rebounds with 22.8 points and 4.8, respectively. His 6.9 assists represents the second-highest mark of his career. His field goal percentage of 46.3 and t3-point percentage of 41.7 also represent career-highs. He earned the third All-Star nod of his career, and the argument that he earned a starting nod over his teammate DeRozan was made by many fans.
An undersized point guard at 6-foot, Lowry manages to hold his own on defense because of his solid build. He scores efficiently from all over the court on offense, and splits playmaking duties with DeRozan cleanly. The duo have allowed for the best years in franchise history, and could again make noise in the playoffs when Lowry comes back. He has become a star in this league, and they miss him.
