5 NBA teams that might draft Lonzo Ball
1. New York Knicks
The Knicks are a mess, but they’re a mess that needs a young point guard. As the front office screams about the triangle, and the players roll their eyes about it, there is an obvious hole at point guard that needs to be addressed. There’s a very strange mix of young talent and veterans on the Knicks roster, but they seem to be moving towards youth at the moment. The organization has done everything possible to alienate Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis came into his own this year, and most of the youth played better than the veterans.
New York needs…something and maybe Ball is that something. If he can get past the toxic situation that is forever the New York organization then this might be a good place for him to team up with Porzingis and make the Knicks relevant again. If the Knicks really are going to run the triangle then Ball theoretically should fit into it well, but who knows if that’s what they’ll actually be doing next season. From a talent and need stand point, Ball should fit into New York fairly well.
The only thing that could derail interest here is Phil Jackson. He’s unpredictable in what he believes New York needs and it’s possible there is something he sees in Ball that he believes won’t fit the vision of the team. That or he really likes what Ron Baker has done in his lone season for the Knicks. Despite Ball’s potential to fit in well here it could all end up being derailed by the Knicks being the Knicks.
