Detroit Pistons to give away epic Ben Wallace bobblehead
Things aren’t going well for the Detroit Pistons right now, but a Ben Wallace bobblehead is set to offer some solace.
The Detroit Pistons have lost four games in a row and seven of their last eight games, including three straight by at least 14 points, after Monday night’s loss to the New York Knicks. At 34-40 they are lingering a game-and-a-half back of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, but the time for a turnaround is dwindling fast.
Over nine total seasons with the Pistons, Ben Wallace won NBA Defensive Player of the Year four times (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006). He was also a key cog in Detroit’s back-to-back conference championship squads in 2004 and 2005, including an NBA title to cap off the first of the two deep playoff runs. On Tuesday night against the Miami Heat, a team the Pistons happen to now be chasing for a playoff spot, Wallace will be part of the halftime festivities.
No only that, but the first 10,000 fans to arrive at the game will get a Wallace bobblehead.
Wallace did not always sport an afro when on the floor, perhaps for aerodynamic reasons more than anything. But that exaggerated hair-do is perfect to have on a bobblehead, to give it a unique, troll doll style and quality.

The Pistons retired Wallace’s No. 3 in January of 2016, so the purpose of his return this time around is unclear beyond a token invitation which he accepted. Perhaps his presence can inspire a better defensive effort from Stan Van Gundy’s squad in what looks like a critical game for them. Maybe Wallace would even be good for a few minutes on the floor against the Heat, if he could suit up at age-42.
