2017 NFL Draft: Philadelphia Eagles 7-round mock
The Eagles have one starting corner down. Now they get their second one in Washington cornerback Sidney Jones. The Eagles are one of the few teams that should be jumping at the chance to take him despite his Achilles’ injury. Philadelphia likely won’t be a serious contender in 2017. If Jones needs a while to rehab, it doesn’t really matter. The Eagles are drafting a first round talent in the third round. If Jones never got injured, he’d be gone by the time Philly picked in the first round.
Tankersley has the nasty attitude you want to see in a bigger corner. Meanwhile, Jones can lock down the speedier options. He has excellent instincts and quickness. Jones is also a lot faster than his 4.47 40 yard dash would suggest. His injury history shouldn’t be shrugged off because there are players who haven’t been the same after an Achilles injury. However, for the Philadelphia Eagles, Jones is well worth the risk.
It was wise of them to sign Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith. This eliminates the need for the Eagles to draft a wide receiver early, allowing them to address their needs on defense. With these first three picks, Philadelphia has solved most of their defensive issues. They still need depth, but they add three starters capable of making a huge impact.
