Top 5 college basketball transfers for the 2017-18 season
No. 2 – Nick King
Getting a player that can play right away is important to a lot of teams. Someone like Nick King could be a great help to a program that just needs a player or two to contend for a national championship.
It was announced about four days ago that King would transfer from the Alabama Crimson Tide program and pursue a different team as a graduate transfer. This would make him available to play next season.
The road for King has been long and complicated. He originally committed to Memphis back in 2012 as a five-star recruit. He was listed as the No. 28 player in the class of 2013 and someone who was wanted by a multitude of programs.
King spent two seasons with the Tigers but didn’t light up the stat sheet. He averaged 4.9 points and 3.3 rebounds during his freshman campaign and then 7.2 points and 4.8 rebounds his sophomore season.
After two years with Memphis, King decided to transfer away from the program and committed to play for Avery Johnson at Alabama. He had to sit out the 2015-16 season, but this past year he only averaged 3.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.
During the course of his career, King hasn’t received a ton of minutes. Despite the lack of minutes he clearly has talent that needs to be tapped into.
There haven’t been any programs reported that are going after King, but he will land with a decent program. This kid has way too much talent not to be at a big-time school.
