Malik Hooker

S, Ohio State

Now that we are all officially used to calling them the Los Angeles Chargers, we take a look at who they need to bring in at No. 7 in next month’s NFL Draft. The Chargers have been lacking a true safety since Eric Weddle bolted for Baltimore, and they should be able to get their next big-time player at the position in the draft. Malik Hooker from Ohio State is coming off two surgeries, but he should be ready to go by the time the Chargers break for training camp.

The Chargers have a pretty solid team heading into next season, and should be the better of the two L.A. teams in 2017. Philip Rivers is showing no signs of slowing down, and even recently said if the Chargers draft a quarterback, they are going to be sitting for a long time. With some of their key players coming back from injury, the Chargers could be a surprise team next season.

Los Angeles did re-sign Jahleel Addae this offseason, but that in no way means they are set at the position. Had he not been hurt, some feel Hooker may have been the first safety off the board, and likely still would be in any other draft year. The Chargers have been horrible against the pass in recent years, but bringing a player like Hooker could change that perception in a heartbeat.
