2017 NFL Draft: Washington Redskins 7-round mock
This is a great draft to boost the defense, and the Redskins could be walking away with three straight defensive players who make an impact for their team in year one. Johnson is not looked at as a major pass rushing threat, so he likely will fall into this range. However, he is a safe bet, can play the one or the three technique, and can give the Redskins snaps as a rookie.
Johnson plays with heavy hands and a strong motor to wear defenders down. Against the run, he clogs lanes. Against the pass, he has the ability to push the pocket, and keep the quarterback from stepping up the pocket. Johnson doesn’t have great burst or agility and will not be the best pass rushing threat. He likely will not be on the field for obvious passing downs. However, he will be part of the reason why there are obvious pass downs.
When looking at the defensive line, it needs some work. Terrell McClain was signed, but when he is a major upgrade from what is on the roster, you know there is an issue. The issue is that this is not the strongest draft for defensive talent. So while they can hit two other positions in the first two rounds, they can still find a potential piece who can at least contribute and provide depth as a rookie.
