Pitchers

Clayton Kershaw $12600

Kershaw is making his seventh straight Opening Day start for the Dodgers. He is 4-0 with two no decisions during the previous six games. He has the experience you want when paying for his large price tag, but he also provides the safety you want at a pitcher position that may carry some uncertainty elsewhere on the first day of the season. ****

Danny Duffy $8800

Duffy faced the Twins a total of three times last year and all of those games were within a five-week time period. In each of those games he lasted over six innings, pitching well into the seventh inning. Overall he was 1-0 with two no decisions against the Twins and he had 10 strikeouts in the one game at Minnesota, where the Opening Day game will be played. ***

Julio Teheran $7900

Teheran faced the Mets three times last year and two of those games were at Citi Field. He ended the season 2-0 with one no decision against the Mets. He allowed only three runs total, including one complete game shutout at Citi Field, where these teams will be playing Opening Day. Teheran carries a little bit more risk than Kershaw and Duffy because he is facing a more capable offense and dueling a better pitcher. However, that did not stop him from putting up great stats last year against this team. Teheran is definitely worth a hard look. **

Jeremy Hellickson $6900

Hellickson faced the Reds twice last year, dominating in both appearances. In those two games, he finished 1-0 with one no decision and allowed zero earned runs. One of those games was Opening Day at Cincinnati last year, in which he had six innings pitched, three hits, six strikeouts, zero earned runs and a no decision. If he can avoid the errors in the field, his chances for a win this year increase, as the Phillies have slightly improved offensively. On the other side, the Reds are starting Scott Feldman, who pitched in the bullpen all of last year, so expect Hellickson to roll in this one. ****
