First Base

High-Salary Option

Miguel Cabrera $4000

Cabrera is raking a .429 batting average this spring training. His batting average last year against the White Sox was .394 with 28 hits in 71 at-bats. Cabrera had three hits in 10 at-bats versus José Quintana, one of them being a home run. The Tigers are expected to win this game and Cabrera will be the main reason why that happens. **

Mid-Range Option

Freddie Freeman $3400

Freeman hit .302 last season in 589 at-bats. 80 of those at-bats were against the New York Mets. Freeman hit .388 against the Mets as a team, and .667 against Noah Syndergaard. Freeman only needed two at-bats against Syndergaard before he hit a home run in the third. Last season, He hit a better batting average during away games versus at home as well as a better average during day games versus night. Both hold true tomorrow as the Braves visit the Mets at 1:10pm, and Freeman will be ready and waiting to hit. ***

Eric Hosmer $3200

Hosmer began the season last year with three hits on Opening Day. He has a good track record against Ervin Santana, the Twins ace. In 11 at-bats last year versus Santana, Hosmer batted .364 with four hits, three runs batted in, three runs scored, and two walks. Hosmer hit .299 during day games versus .255 during night games, and batted his best average of the season in the month of April. Everything seems to be adding up to Hosmer having a big game on Opening Day. ***

High-Value Option

Tommy Joseph $2100

Joseph had a respectable spring training this year for the Phillies, a team most likely entering another rebuilding season. Last year, 21 of Joseph’s 81 hits were home runs. He is not guaranteed to score points by any means, but his cheap salary does warrant some consideration as it opens up other areas on your roster. **
