High Priced Pitchers

Rich Hill – Los Angeles Dodgers ($10800): What a story Rich Hill was last year. Can he continue to dominate this year? He’s definitely got the stuff. Hill strikes out a lot of batters and he has a prime matchup against the San Diego Padres tonight, pitching at home in L.A. He had just three stared at Dodger Stadium last year but allowed only one run and we all know it’s a park that favors pitchers. I don’t think matchups get much better than this, at least on paper.

Chris Sale – Boston Red Sox ($11200): Sale gets to make his first regular season start for the Red Sox and he’ll get to face Pittsburgh hitters in temperatures hovering around 40 degrees. Pitchers are said to have the advantage early in the season and cold weather certainly plays into that. Current Red Sox batter have just seven at-bats against Sale, and I think that gives him an advantage too. It’s one thing to look at someone on tape. It’s quite another to face it live in cold weather. I love Sale tonight, although you’ll definitely pay the price to have him.

Jacob deGrom – New York Mets ($10600): The Braves lineup looks fairly weak and they did nothing to change minds about that on opening day when they were shutout Noah Syndergaard and the Mets. deGrom has held most of the Braves in check over his career, allowing just 23 hits in 96 at-bats and a weak .638 OPS. Braves’ slugger Freddie Freeman is just 4-for-19 lifetime against deGrom, including seven strikeouts.
