14. Oregon holds off Michigan in the final seconds

While the rounds leading up to the Elite Eight featured a lack of buzzer beaters, there were plenty of near misses, including Derrick Walton’s missed 3-pointer to end an intense game between Michigan and Oregon.

The Wolverines entered the Sweet Sixteen matchup as the hottest shooting team in the country with a seven-game winning streak, including an upset of Louisville in the previous round. They moved on to face Oregon, which survived against Rhode Island despite losing Chris Boucher late in the year.

Neither team could get any separation, as the game was played within one possession for nearly the duration. After Walton’s jumper gave Michigan a 68-65 advantage with 2:00 to go, the Ducks took the lead back on consecutive layups by Jordan Bell and Tyler Dorsey.

Trailing by a point, the Wolverines dribbled down the clock and settled for a deep jumper. Walton, who was on fire from the perimeter all tournament long, missed the shot to seal the dramatic 68-67 Oregon win.

The Ducks would have a far easier time in the next round in a win over Kansas to qualify for their first Final Four in 78 years.
