The late lottery is where things get a bit awkward in this draft as teams could go any number of directions with their selections. There’s no clear cut prospect who stands above the rest in this area. As is, we’ll slot the Miami Heat with a high risk, high reward wing.
Terrance Ferguson was a five-star recruit coming out of high school who opted to spend his season before the draft playing overseas in Australia. Like most 18-year old players would, Ferguson struggled mightily. In about 15 minutes per game, he averaged just 4.6 points, shot 31.3 percent from deep and didn’t add much else in the way of relevant stats.
Ferguson, one of the youngest players in the draft, still has plenty of room to grow. Coming out of high school, analysts were attracted to his combination of size and athleticism. At 6-foot-7 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, Ferguson has the size necessary to be a modern wing. He can jump out of the gym, moves well and was a streaky, but effective shooter as a high school player.
Young, athletic wings offer a good canvas for a team to paint on and hopefully Ferguson can be the latest one to turn into a productive NBA player.
