With Ricky Rubio playing well after the All-Star break and Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns in place as young building blocks, the Minnesota Timberwolves need to fill in the gaps. Florida State’s Jonathan Isaac would do that nicely as a combo forward who could slide in at the four spot to play in between Wiggins and Towns.
Isaac’s offensive game is a good, but not demanding one. He excelled in a low usage role at Florida State and moved the ball well to help facilitate the flow of the offense. Isaac featured primarily as an off-ball shooter who made 34.8 percent of his 3s as a freshman. The 19-year old is a good bet to improve as a shooter over time, though, as he made 78.0 percent of his free throws. His size also makes it nearly impossible for most players to challenge his shot.
Where Isaac may offer some really intriguing possibilities is on defense where his length and versatility are often on display. This season, he averaged 2.3 blocks and 1.8 steals per 40 minutes. As a small ball power forward, those are terrific numbers. The Isaac-Towns frontcourt would have the potential to be an imposing one in time.
