Starting Pitchers

Marcus Stroman – Toronto Blue Jays ($8700): Stroman is coming off an excellent preseason in which he was named the MVP of the World Baseball Classic. He’s also a player many are projecting to take that next step this season. Tonight he gets a solid matchup against a Tampa Bay team that he should be able to handle. Longoria has fared well against Stroman in his career, so he needs to shut him down tonight.

Blake Snell – Tampa Bay Rays ($7100): Speaking of players ready to take the next step, Snell had one of the highest strikeouts per nine innings ratios after the all-star break last season, and he doesn’t give up a lot of homers. He needs to cut down on the walks and tonight needs to be focused when up against the Toronto right-handed hitters. But this kid could be the next big name for starting pitchers and on a short slate he’s definitely in play.

Robbie Ray – Arizona Diamondbacks ($8300): Ray is another young pitcher that could advance his game this season, and he certainly gets a lot of strikeouts, averaging more than one per inning over his brief career. He was 1-1 with 23 strikeouts in 17 innings with a 3.71 ERA against the Giants last season, right in line with his season numbers. He’s a guy who could post a big number if he has his fastball and slider working for Ks.

Joe Musgrove – Houston Astros ($7000): Musgrove had a really nice second half last season and finished with a 1.21 WHIP and almost a strikeout per inning. He was amazing at home in Houston with a 1.75 ERA and an average of 22 FP per game as opposed to just six FP on the road. He makes for a solid play tonight as the Astros welcome the Mariners.
