George Springer hits a walk-off home run to help fuel the Houston Astros to a 5-3 win over the Seattle Mariners in extra innings.

The Houston Astros took on the Seattle Mariners in the third game out of a four game series to start the season, and it ended in dramatic fashion. Coming into the bottom of the 13th inning, George Springer stepped up to the plate with his team down 3-2 with one out remaining in the game. Chase De Jong was pitching for the Mariners and he was one strike away from sending Houston home with its first loss of the season, but Springer had other plans for his team last night.

Springer sent the ball 353 feet in the air to left center, and led the Astros to their third straight victory to begin the season. Springer was responsible for all of his teams runs scored last night, and none other than his last hit. Although it is a long season, the Astros have begun the year on a high note as they are 3-0 for the first time since their 2001 season.

Playing in a crowded AL West division that included the Texas Rangers and the Seattle Mariners, the Astros are trying to maintain their success and make the playoffs this season after missing out last season by five games.

Springer is off to a fine start during this young season as he has compiled an impressive .308 batting average to go along with 2 home runs and 6 runs batted in. He is looking to build on his career year last season where he belted 29 home runs. Springer isn’t the sole reason that Houston has started off the season so well, but he was their main source of offense in last night’s thrilling victory.
