Solomon Thomas

DL, Stanford

The San Francisco 49ers were a complete joke with Chip Kelly at the helm, and the organization realized that after one season. In his place, Kyle Shanahan will take over the reins in 2017, as he inked a six-year deal with the team this offseason. He will be joined by general manager John Lynch, the former standout safety who, like Shanahan, also received a six-year deal.

With their first pick as a unit, expect the 49ers front office to go after a defensive player, which will most likely be Solomon Thomas. The young defensive lineman out of Stanford is an impressive talent, possessing the ability to stuff the run, and get after the quarterback. He would be a perfect fit for the 49ers 4-3 scheme, teaming with the likes of Arik Armstead and DeForest Buckner.

There is a Stanford connection between Thomas and Lynch, but that will certainly not be something that factors into Thomas going No. 2 overall. The 49ers have to be led by their defense next season, as there are just way too many deficiencies on the offensive side of the ball. Bringing in Thomas would give the team an elite pass rush next season, which they will need if they want to improve on a dreadful 2016 season.
