2017 NFL Mock Draft: Jets, Browns land quarterbacks
By Brad Weiss
The Oakland Raiders have put themselves in position to be very good for the next couple of seasons, though they made headlines this offseason for non-football related reasons. Team owner Mark Davis has decided to leave the Bay Area, and the Raiders will be moving to Las Vegas to begin play in 2020. While the Oakland faithful cannot be happy with the move, you can count on some good football being played inside the Oakland Coliseum for the next few years.
Last season, the Raiders did a nice job bringing in some talent on the defensive side of the ball, signing players like linebacker Bruce Irvin and cornerback Sean Smith. However, the defense struggled once again to get stops on a consistent basis, and help is needed on both units. Linebacker Reuben Foster is the best middle linebacker prospect in this draft class, and he just may fall to the Raiders based on worries about his character.
Some people have Foster going off the board early in round one, as the altercation at the NFL Scouting Combine may not affect his draft status that much. If that is the case, the Raiders could add a player like Zach Cunningham from Vanderbilt, though there is a shot Foster will still be hanging around late in round one. The Raiders have all the pieces in place on offense to be dominant once again in 2017, but this team is only going to go as far as their defense allows them to.
