Fantasy baseball: 25 players you need to claim
By Brad Weiss
Over the past four seasons, Steve Pearce had the luxury of playing inside Camden Yards, which is a haven for hitters. Pearce put up some good numbers for the Baltimore Orioles, but will move to an AL East rival for the 2017 season. He is going to take the place of Edwin Encarnacion in the Toronto Blue Jays lineup, and should have plenty of opportunities to produce in a stacked lineup.
The Blue Jays are going to put up runs, and some believe they are going to make a serious run towards the postseason. The lineup already includes guys like Joey Bautista and Josh Donaldson, so expect Pearce to get his fair share of pitches this season. He has shown that he can absolutely rake when he is on, and though he only has first base eligibility, he is someone who could fill a utility role on your roster.
Over the past three seasons, Pearce has blasted 50 home runs, but he should be able to produce even better with steady playing time in 2017. The change of scenery should be good for Pearce, who should get to play more than the 90 or so games he has averaged over the last couple of seasons. Over his career, 168 of his 419 career hits have gone for extra-bases, proving that he has the kind of pop that can help your lineup a couple of times a week.
