Fantasy baseball: 25 players you need to claim
By Brad Weiss
Sometimes it is one start that can win you the week, and Kendall Graveman is a player who can get you a quality start every time he takes the mound. The Oakland Athletics are expecting big things from him this season, and named him their Opening Day starter during spring training. He should be able to rack up at least 30 starts this season, and will continue to get better with experience.
The Athletics are likely not to be so good this season, but that is not going to stop Graveman from helping his fantasy owners. He has started at least 30 games since becoming a full-time starter for the A’s, and racked up ten wins on a very bad team last season. He does not strike out a ton of batters, but should be able to see his ERA tick below 4.00 for the first time in his career this season.
Watching him pitch in the opener, he does have good stuff, so he may be worth taking a flyer on. Even if he is someone you plug in late in the week to try to get some stats out of him, he is going to have a pretty good chance of picking up the win. He has a bulldog mentality on the mound, and the Athletics made the right call by making him their ace this season.
