2017 NFL Draft: Carolina Panthers 7-round mock
By John Buhler
Third Round
Carolina could use another pass rusher to account for the loss of Ealy to the Patriots. Frankly, most of the Panthers’ pass rushing talent comes from the interior with guys like Kawann Short and Charles Johnson.
To add more diversity to their pass rushing efforts, Carolina should look to edge in this draft. This is particularly deep edge class to begin with, so Carolina could get a solid pass rusher as late as their conditional pick in the third round at No. 98.
Scheme fit will be important to the narrative of his NFL career, but Houston Cougars outside linebacker Tyus Bowser could be the choice for the Panthers to make at the end of the third round. He was part of the reason that Houston had such a strong start to their 2016 NCAA season. It wasn’t exclusively former head coach Tom Herman, now with the Texas Longhorns.
With a last name like Bowser, he’s got a great chance at being a real beast a pass rusher. While he does present a low floor, high ceiling type of vibe as an NFL player, Carolina can afford to use a day two selection on a scouting combine star in Bowser at No. 98.
