David Njoku

Tight End, Miami Hurricanes

The New York Giants should be in contention with the Dallas Cowboys to win the NFC East this fall. Steve Spagnuolo’s defense should again be a focal point of this team. However, the Giants need to figure out a way to diversify their passing portfolio.

All they do is run three wide receiver sets and hope that Odell Beckham Jr. can score 50-yard touchdowns. The running game could get better with Paul Perkins’ second year in the league, but that offensive line is still rather suspect.

Targeting an offensive lineman at No. 23 could be in play, but perhaps New York will want to dip its toes into the deep tight end class of 2017. Alabama’s O.J. Howard should be off the board by the time that the Giants pick at No. 23. Miami’s David Njoku has emerged as the No. 2 tight end in this class after Howard.

Njoku could add an interesting wrinkle to the Giants passing game at tight end. Two tight end sets in New York? Who could have thought that? Quarterback Eli Manning can still win the Giants games, but he is easily the most unathletic starting quarterback in the league right now. He doesn’t have the noodle arm of his older brother Peyton, but a solid tight end like Njoku could keep Manning in the league a little bit longer.
