Patrick Mahomes

Quarterback, Texas Tech Red Raiders

The Houston have a Super Bowl contending team, except at quarterback. Houston is handing the keys to Tom Savage after general manager Rick Smith fumbled the Brock Osweiler snap in hot pursuit of Tony Romo. He picked riding pine with the Dallas Mavericks over playing for the 2017 Texans. Calling gigs with Jim Nantz on CBS is still a really cool gig, if we’re being totally honest.

So the Texans need to go quarterback at No. 25. With Mitchell Trubisky and Deshaun Watson already off the board, is there a guy worthy of the Texans’ first-round pick? You better believe it! He may be a massive project, but Texas Tech Red Raiders signal caller Patrick Mahomes might be the most physically gifted quarterback in this draft.

Mahomes is the son of a Major League pitcher and can make all the throws required to be a starter in the NFL. Though he has sloppy footwork and played in Texas Tech’s Air Raid, Mahomes a bit of that on-field dynamism of an Aaron Rodgers or a Derek Carr.

Since the greatest quarterback in Texans history is Matt Schaub, it is 100 perfect worth it to draft a player of the Rodgers/Carr prototype. Mahomes’ floor may be that of Johnny Manziel, but he has the maturity to stick in the league longer than Manziel did. Getting Mahomes at No. 25 this April might make the Texans a playoff contender for the foreseeable future if he develops into a pro-style passer. His arm talent is unbelievable.
