2017 NFL Mock Draft: Can we trust the Cleveland Browns?
By John Buhler
It’s no secret where the Tennessee Titans need to get better in the NFL Draft: out on the perimeter. Fortunately, they can address both primary areas of need with their two first-round picks. Tennessee inherits the No. 5 overall pick from the Los Angeles Rams from the Jared Goff trade.
The Titans have one of the most underrated coaching staffs in football. Mike Mularkey might the most underrated head coach in the NFL entering 2017. Offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie was an elite wide receivers coach for years before taking this post last fall on Mularkey’s staff. Keep in mind that the ageless Dick LeBeau is running the Titans defense.
Since Robiskie will have more time with the Titans to mold wideouts that LeBeau would with defensive backs, let’s assume general manager Jon Robinson grabs the best pure cornerback in the draft in Ohio State’s Marshon Lattimore.
He may have left Columbus with two years of eligibility left, but this kid is the real deal. Lattimore could become the shutdown cornerback Tennessee needs or a guy that can play in several roles in the Titans secondary. It would be a reach for the Titans to go wideout at No. 5 anyway. They need to go in the secondary with this pick they received from the toothless Rams.
