19. Robinson Cano

2B, Seattle Mariners

  • Career Stats: .306/.355/.497, 2,220 hits, 482 2B, 279 HR, 1,094 RBI
  • Career Accolades: 7x All-Star, 5x Silver Slugger, 2x Gold Glove

There’s a different time and place to debate just how bad Robinson Cano’s 10-year, $240-million contract will look in the final years of his career. For now, the Mariners have gotten a very good return on their investment, and building a more complete lineup around Cano could lead them back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2001 season.

Over the first three years of his time in Seattle, Cano has batted .299/.355/.479 with 74 home runs and 264 RBI. Hitting in Safeco Field has not slowed Cano down one bit. He has batted .293/.348/.474 with 41 home runs and 147 RBI in 278 career games at the Mariners spacious ballpark.

Now in his 13th year in the big leagues, Cano has already built a Hall of Fame resume, and is on track to reach 3,000 hits with an outside shot at 400 home runs. He is already 12th all time at second base in WAR, and only one retired player above him is not in the Hall of Fame. Cano could become just the fifth second baseman in MLB history to record 3,000 hits and the first with over 400 home runs. He currently has the third-highest slugging percentage by a second baseman. One of the smoothest players in the league will have no difficulty being inducted to the Hall of Fame when his career is over.
