Next Week: April 18-19 at Royals, April 21-23 at Rockies

The Rockies have been full of mixed signals thus far in 2017. Colorado lost two of three games at home against the Padres to begin the week, but ended strong with a 3-1 trip to San Francisco. Through the first 14 games of the season, the Rockies have a nine wins – more than any other team in the big leagues – but also have a minus-7 run differential.

Arizona has outscored every team in the major leagues through the first two weeks of the season, but the Diamondbacks have struggled to keep teams off the scoreboard. Sunday’s 3-1 win over the Dodgers in Los Angeles Sunday snapped a three-game losing streak, and is the kind of game the club must win if it hopes to extend a strong first two weeks into a playoff push.

Like the Cubs, who beat them in two of three games early last week, the Dodgers will be fine. Los Angeles leads the National League with a plus-23 run differential, and no NL team has surrendered fewer runs through the first two weeks of the season. Clayton Kershaw was dominant Saturday as he allowed one run on four hits in 8.1 innings of an 8-4 win over the Diamondbacks to secure the series win.

Next: One prospect each MLB team should call up

The Padres won five of their first 10 games, but looked like the team we all expected over the weekend, dropping three straight in Atlanta. San Diego scored two runs in each of the three losses, and have now scored just 41 runs this season – the fewest in the National League. Worse, no team in the majors has allowed more runs so far this season.

A series win against Arizona set the tone for a potential bounce back week, but the Giants dropped three of four to the visiting Rockies instead. Left field continues to be an issue as Jarrett Parker hit the disabled list with a broken collarbone.
