Grayson Allen will be spending one more season with the Duke Blue Devils, as he has announced he will be returning for his senior year

The Duke Blue Devils are probably still reeling from their second round NCAA Tournament exit at the hands of the South Carolina Gamecocks, but they got some positive news on Tuesday. The team announced on Tuesday that the ever-polarizing Grayson Allen is returning to Durham for his senior season.

Allen is coming off a junior season in which he averaged 14.5 points per game with 3.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists. While those numbers are down from his sophomore season, they’re not bad by any means, especially considering the scorers Allen had around him. However, this year was not without controversy.

Again during the 2016-17 season Allen was involved in a few questionable incidents, including tripping a player on the court. This led to Coach K suspending him “indefinitely” in January, a suspension which only ended up amounting to one game. Then there was the meltdown that he had on the Duke bench, which led some to question whether he was even ready, maturity wise, for the pressures of the NBA.

Duke is losing some top talent off of this year’s team, but they always bring in some of the best recruits in the nation, so Allen will have some help as he tries to lead this Duke team back to the Final Four.

Returning to Duke and skipping the NBA Draft this year will turn out to be beneficial. Allen will now have the opportunity to show the naysayers that he has indeed matured as a person and a player, which could do wonders for his draft stock, barring any sort of freak injury.
