Draft status: In with an agent
At some point, the Atlanta Hawks are going to have to start grooming a replacement for center Dwight Howard. Creighton’s Justin Patton isn’t anywhere near the same physical specimen or prospect that Howard was, but he has the potential to be a quality big man in the league.
Patton was at his best when point guard Maurice Watson Jr. was healthy and running the show in Omaha. With a good point guard, Patton was a pick-and-roll threat and transition terror. He excels at rim running and is quick up and down the floor. Patton also has a nice collection of post moves that he can rely on, which will come in handy if he ever starts earning switches at the NBA level. The big man even hit a few 3-pointers this season as well.
Defensively, he moves well laterally, blocks a few shots and rebounds alright. He lacks the strength to be a dominant rebounder and post defender, though, and will need to add that over time. His length measurements at the combine will also be important to get an idea of how well his shot blocking will translate.
