North Carolina Tar Heels: What is the offense even going to look like?

This could be a rough year for the North Carolina Tar Heels football program. Two years ago, North Carolina won the ACC Coastal. Last year, the Tar Heels had their moments, mostly against Florida State. So what’s the reason for a potential downturn for the Tar Heels program in 2017?

Well, they are losing an absolutely ridiculous number of offensive weapons to the NFL, enough to make head coach Larry Fedora spike his visor in disgust like somebody we used to know. Here are all the guys of note that North Carolina will lose to the 2017 NFL.

Redshirt junior quarterback Mitch Trubisky projects as a top-10 pick. The running back tandem of Elijah Hod and T.J. Logan are going pro. Though neither had the acclaim of Trubisky in 2016, expect one of them to be an impactful NFL player as a change-of-pace back.

Now to the receiving corps. North Carolina lost Mack Hollins, Ryan Switzer and Bug Howard to the 2017 NFL Draft. Hollins and Switzer will be drafted, while Howard could be a sneaky-good find as an undrafted free agent. With so many weapons departing, it’s no wonder why Trubisky punted on his senior year in Chapel Hill.

So let’s get used to a lot of new names on the North Carolina offense in 2017. Fedora is a good enough coach to have this team going to a bowl game in a certain rebuilding year for the program. Don’t expect North Carolina to honestly contend for the ACC Coastal this season. If the Tar Heels win the Coastal, hats off … rather, visors off for the phenomenal coaching job Fedora was sure to have done.
