Mitchell Trubisky

QB, UNC

The New York Jets have drafted a quarterback in each of the last two drafts, including using a second round pick last year to draft Christian Hackenberg out of Penn State. Well, neither he, or Bryce Petty have emerged as the team’s future at the position, which makes it likely the team will once again dip into the quarterback pool in 2017. If they do decide to bring in an arm, look for Mitchell Trubisky to be the first signal-caller off the board, as he is someone who can come in and play right away.

There are plenty of reasons for the Jets to do anything but draft a quarterback, but Trubisky may be too sexy a pick to pass up at No. 6. He certainly has the arm talent to be successful at the next level, and based on his athleticism, he would immediately be atop the depth chart in New York this season. He only started 13 games in college, and that has scared some scouts, but the Jets need a franchise quarterback, and Trubisky is the top name in this draft at the position.

This offseason, the Jets have stripped their roster, letting go of most of their big-name talent. However, they do still have two solid running backs, and Eric Decker is a proven commodity at wide receiver. Head coach Todd Bowles heads into year three of his four-year deal, but you have to think he wants to win now, as another five-win season could mean the end of his tenure in New York. The Jets do not have the time to groom a quarterback, but they like Trubisky a lot, and could go with newly acquired Josh McCown if need be to start the season.
