12. 1966-67 Los Angeles Lakers

It’s hard to believe that a team with Jerry West, Elgin Baylor and Gail Goodrich could make such a list. Yet, the 1966-67 Los Angeles Lakers managed to be mediocre in the regular season and just a terrible playoff team.

While everyone looks back fondly on that period of basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers, this was a team that had not yet been graced with Wilt Chamberlain. Once he arrived, everything changed and the legacy began to be built.

Still, with the talent of West and Baylor, this team was too good to finish 36-45. Now, part of that record could be because West missed 15 games on the season, which likely would have swung things in the other direction for the year.

West would only play one of the three playoff games and the Lakers would get swept rather easily by San Francisco. So, yes it might not be fair to put them on this list because of circumstance but there was enough talent on the roster even with injuries to perform better than they did.

Every great team has a bad playoff team and that was the case for the Lakers that season. They find ways to still make it into the playoffs even when they’re clearly not at their best.
