11. 1984-85 Phoenix Suns

After nearly a decade of playoff runs, the 1984-85 Phoenix Suns were a team at the end of a run, heading into a dark period they didn’t foresee. The treacherous drug scandal years were just around the corner and this team that had just made it to the Western Conference Finals the year before, suddenly made it in with a losing record at 36-46.

The Suns would be quickly dispatched of by the Lakers in the first round and wouldn’t return to the playoffs until the end of the decade, when they began to build arguably their best teams in franchise history.

The 1984-85 Suns were a reminder of how quickly it comes and goes in sports. One minute they were in a tight battle for supremacy in the Western Conference and the next they were on their way to a bit of a drought as a franchise.

The good news is that they made some suave moves to eventually right the ship and get thing turned around. This is their only appearance on the list and a reminder of how good their playoff teams typically were save for this lone year.
