7. 1985-86 San Antonio Spurs

Continuing the trend of great franchises having bad teams make the playoffs, the San Antonio Spurs check in on this list. In fact, the mid 80’s Spurs earn their spot twice on the worst NBA playoff teams of all time.

Before the team landed David Robinson and ultimately changed things for the franchise, they were a middling team that had a poor squad make the playoffs. The sad part is that at one point, this team that finished 35-47, was 30-26.

That means the Spurs ended up losing 21 of their final 26 games on the season. That’s at a clip on par with the very worst of the worst. Still, they had won enough up to that point that they made it into the playoffs without any fuel left.

They would meet up with the Los Angeles Lakers and were kindly shown the door right away. They would miss the playoffs the next season and then a couple years later end up making the playoffs with one of the worst records ever by a playoff team.

This certainly is a far cry from the Spurs teams that have been dominating for the better part of 20 years. The good news for those bad teams is that better basketball was just around the corner for them.
