The Redskins could go a million different ways with this pick (well, actually about a dozen ways, but you get the point). Washington has to be thinking about the quarterback position after failing to sign Kirk Cousins to a long-term deal. Perhaps the Redskins believe they can sign Cousins to a deal before July 15, but they could first use hiring a general manager before then. If Washington doesn’t go the route of signal caller, it’s time to develop another pass-rusher to play opposite of Ryan Kerrigan.
Washington has not been able to generate consistent pressure outside of Kerrigan since the heyday of Brian Orakpo. With Orakpo in Tennessee, the choice of Taco Charlton would be a nice marriage of best player available and need. Charlton is 277 pounds, so there is some whether he would be better off losing a few and playing as a standup 3-4 outside linebacker, or a 4-3 defensive end with his hand in the dirt. Defensive coordinator Greg Manusky runs a 3-4, but Charlton could be used much like Joey Bosa was with the Chargers last year. Allow him to move around and utilize his athleticism. Washington has to upgrade its front seven to challenge in the NFC East.
