Jonathan Allen

Defensive tackle, Alabama Crimson Tide

This board would be a dream scenario for the newly-minted Los Angeles Chargers. General manager Tom Telesco has added talent to the roster in recent years, but has been thwarted by injuries, a great division and bad luck. Los Angeles could bolster its case for playoff contention this year with a nice draft, and nabbing Alabama star Jonathan Allen in the first round would be a fine way to get that rolling. Allen was once considered a surefire top-three pick, but talk about bad medicals involving his shoulders might have him drop a few spots.

The Chargers were able to land Joey Bosa last year, and despite playing in only 12 games, Bosa racked up 10.5 sacks as a highly-impressive rookie. Under new head coach Anthony Lynn and defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, Los Angeles is transitioning to the 4-3 and could use another defensive tackle to pair with Corey Liuget. Allen is a penetrator who should be a three-down lineman, forcing doubles against both the run and pass. While a comparion to Warren Sapp would be lofty, Allen’s tape with the Crimson Tide suggests he could become one a superstar. Look for Allen to come off the board here at the very latest.
