2. Washington State – Can they avoid the early season slip-up?

The Washington State Cougars are certainly an enigma. It certainly takes quite the team to lose to an FCS squad at the beginning of the year and then make a run at the division crown by the end of it.

That’s exactly the story of the Washington State Cougars over the past couple of seasons. Imagine just how different things might have been if they could have avoided losing to Portland State or Eastern Washington.

Mike Leach certainly isn’t afraid to hide his feelings over the situation and he held his team accountable after those losses. What he can’t afford is to have a trend of starting slow in 2017 after the past couple of seasons.

With Luke Falk back under center for Washington State, there should be that same continuity with the offense that Leach loves. If they can start hot, then they could parlay it into a significant run toward a major bowl game.

We’ve seen what happens when the Cougars get going on a winning streak. They just have to make sure it doesn’t come after bad losses to start the season.
