22. Goldust

Hey look, it’s another son of Dusty Rhodes. After a short run in WWE in the early 90s, Dustin Rhodes went to WCW with his dad to hone his craft and he had an impressive run, winning the United States Championship on two separate occasions, beating Ricky Steamboat and Rick Rude for those. So when he returned to WWE in 1995 as Goldust, he already had the pedigree and he was put into a feud with Razor Ramon just a few short months after his debut and defeated him at the 1996 Royal Rumble to win his first Intercontinental Championship, albeit with help from the 1-2-3 Kid, a title he would hold for the next 64 days. The belt was vacated after a match between Goldust and Savio Vega on Monday Night RAW ended in a no-contest but Goldust would reclaim it a week later in the rematch.

Goldust’s second run would last 83 days and he would successfully defend his title against The Ultimate Warrior during this time among others before losing it to Ahmed Johnson at the King of the Ring pay-per-view in June 1996. Over the next three years, Goldust would have some good programs with the likes of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Mankind, Brian Pillman, Val Venis and Jeff Jarrett before being knocked down the card a bit. However, he was able to sneak in one last reign as Intercontinental Champion when he defeated Road Dogg on RAW in April 1999. This third and final reign lasted only two weeks as he lost the belt to The Godfather. But his time as Intercontinental Champion was very entertaining, even though some people might have been upset with him for changing the color of the belt. I guess those Rhodes boys just always have to be special, don’t they?
