Donovan Mitchell

SG, Louisville

Draft status: In without an agent

If the Chicago Bulls have figured out one thing during their playoff series with the Boston Celtics, it is hopefully that surrounding Jimmy Butler with shooting works. Adding additional shooters in the offseason should be a priority for the Bulls and acquiring Louisville’s Donovan Mitchell via the draft would be one option.

Mitchell is a 6-foot-3 shooting guard who might offer Chicago some interesting versatility if they wanted to play him at “point guard” in lineups where Butler is the primary ball-handler. He has a massive 6-foot-8 wingspan that would be swarming at the point of attack against opposing lead guards. Even if he projects largely to play as a two, Mitchell should be a quality defender at the next level. He averaged 2.6 steals per 40 minutes as a sophomore and has tremendous instincts and the quickness to disrupt plays.

Offensively, Mitchell made significant strides as a 3-point shooter as a sophomore after investing time working on his shot during the offseason. He made 35.4 percent of his 226 attempts and improved at the free throw line. Mitchell also took nearly twice as many 3s per 40 minutes as a sophomore compared to his freshman season. Keeping that 3-point percentage up in the NBA, though, will be critical.
