NBA Free Agency 2017: 5 offseason needs for the Philadelphia 76ers
By John Buhler
1. Best player available in 2017 NBA Draft
The 76ers need some ping-pong cooperation to get into the top-three of the upcoming 2017 NBA Draft. They’d have to jump the Boston Celtics via the Brooklyn Nets, the Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Lakers to get into the top-three.
Franky, draft positioning won’t matter all that much for the 76ers. The 76ers should still be able to get a potentially great player at No. 4 to No. 6, presumably where they’ll be drafting. We can only speculate that the 76ers won’t go center with that pick. Realistically, positions one through four are still on the table for Philadelphia to improve their ball club.
Should they go point guard, Kentucky Wildcats’ De’Aaron Fox or North Carolina State Wolfpack’s Dennis Smith could be the guy. This is assuming Washington Huskies’ Markelle Fultz and UCLA Bruin’s Lonzo Ball are already off the board.

Kentucky’s Malik Monk would be available to help at shooting guard. Guys like Kansas Jayhawks’ Joshua Jackson, Florida State Seminoles’ Jonathan Isaac, and Duke Blue Devils’ Jayson Tatum could be fits at small forward. Arizona Wildcats’ Lauri Markannen could be a piece at power forward. In short, Philadelphia gets better by taking the best player available in the lottery, as long as that guy is not a true center.
