The Buffalo Bills traded back in round one of the 2017 NFL Draft to select LSU Tigers cornerback Tre’Davious White. Here is the Bills’ 2017 NFL Draft grade.

The Buffalo Bills entered the 2017 NFL Draft tied for the fewest picks in the draft with the Atlanta Falcons at six. Interestingly, Buffalo made a trade with the Falcons, and a few other teams along the way, to still wind up with six picks.

This was the first draft of the Sean McDermott era in Orchard Park and one would have thought that the Bills would have made a big splash at No. 10 to help welcome their new coach. Well, that wasn’t the case. The Bills traded out of the top-10 with the Kansas City Chiefs. They did however, land a defensive back that McDermott is sure to like at LSU Tigers cornerback Tre’Davious White at No. 27.

Here is a look at what the Bills did with their six 2017 NFL Draft picks, as well as the draft grade.

First Round

27

Tre'Davious White

Cornerback, LSU Tigers

Trading out of the top-10 was an interesting move for the Bills to make given the amount of defensive back talent that was atop the NFL Draft board. Maybe McDermott was totally comfortable with whomever he would be getting at No. 27? Then again, Ohio State Buckeyes cornerback did go one spot after the Bills’ initial pick at No. 11 to the New Orleans Saints.

White was a collegiate standout at LSU and a great leader in the Bayou Bengals defensive backfield. He should be able to start right away in McDermott’s defense. Frankly, the Bills will need him to, as they need to address the massive loss of cornerback Stephon Gilmore to the AFC East rival New England Patriots.

White is not injury-prone and a guy that McDermott and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier can definitely coach up. It comes as absolutely no shock that the Bills would go with a defensive back in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

What does come as a shock is that their guy ended up being White. Lattimore, Gareon Conley and Marlon Humphrey all went ahead of White in the first round. If Buffalo really liked White in the interview process and look forward to that future first-round pick coming their way from Kansas City, then more power to the Bills on this late first-round selection.
