Hunter Renfrow

Wide Receiver, Clemson

There are two huge reasons why the Clemson Tigers made it to the top of the college football landscape the past two seasons. One was their star quarterback, Deshaun Watson, who lost only three games as a starter during his career. The other was his favorite target, Mike Williams, who was the seventh overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft on Thursday night.

Clemson plans to go with Kelly Bryant to replace Watson, and we will tackle that later in this piece. At wide receiver, the plan is for Hunter Renfrow to take on an added role next season, and most college football fans can remember that name from last season. Renfrow was the man who caught the game-winning touchdown in the National Championship Game, clinching the Tigers upset victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Renfrow’s story is incredible, and he certainly deserves every bit of glory he has gotten over the past few months. A former walk-on, Renfrow has had to earn everything he has gotten during his time at Clemson, and now he steps into the spotlight as the team’s No. 1 option at wide receiver. Like everything else he has done in his collegiate career, he should excel, helping the Tigers to another successful season in 2017.

Despite missing four games last season, Renfrow put up solid numbers, but he was at his best on the biggest stage. In that win against Alabama, Renfrow caught two touchdowns, while hauling in ten passes for 92 yards. Only a junior, Renfrow’s importance to the team could not be any more important than it is now, and head coach Dabo Swinney has to be happy he walked on two years ago.
