2018 NFL Mock Draft: Quarterbacks reign supreme
By Brad Weiss
Many believed the Philadelphia Eagles would pick a wide receiver with their first round pick in 2017, or at least a playmaker at the running back position. Instead, the Eagles decided to improve their pass rush, selecting Tennessee defensive end Derek Barnett. During his time with the Vols, Barnett broke former Eagles star Reggie White’s career sack record, and his motor should make him a fan favorite in the City of Brotherly Love.
This offseason, the Eagles offered a one-year deal to former Chicago Bears wideout Alson Jeffery, while also bringing in Torrey Smith on a multi-year contract. With their first pick in 2018, they should look to add to that wide receiver group, and Christian Kirk from Texas A&M is a dynamic player. Kirk would give Wentz the young wide receiver he needs to continue his development, while also putting Kirk in an offense that he can really flourish in.
Kirk was the SEC Freshman of the Year in 2015, and followed that campaign up with an 83-catch season in 2016. Kirk has scored 16 touchdowns in his two years with the Aggies, and is likely to leave school if he can put together another productive season in 2017. He is a bit undersized, but his blend of speed and hands is going to be hard to overlook this late in round one. The Eagles need someone to stretch the field, and Kirk is one of the best in the country at doing just that.
