2018 NFL Mock Draft: Quarterbacks reign supreme
By Brad Weiss
The New York Giants came into the 2017 NFL Draft with a couple of needs, and while they did not get the offensive tackle most believe they would go after, they did add a solid pass-catching tight end to Eli Manning’s list of weapons. This offseason, the Giants locked up Jason Pierre-Paul to a multi-year deal, which means he and Olivier Vernon will be manning the defensive end positions for at least the next four years.
Still, the Giants have to continue to add talent to their defensive line, and they did a nice job of that by drafting defensive tackle Dalvin Thompson in the second round. With their top pick in 2018, they should look to bring in Sam Hubbard, who can play either defensive end, or outside linebacker at the next level. He has been a key to the Ohio State defense the past few season, helping lead them to the No. 4 ranking in the FBS in 2016.
For too long, the Giants have struggled on defense, but that all changed last season. When the Giants were winning their two latest Super Bowls, they were awesome at getting after the quarterback. A roster consisting of JPP, Vernon, and Hubbard would give the Giants three guys who can get after the quarterback on any play. That is sure to make Giants fans happy week in, and week out.
