Baker Mayfield

QB, Oklahoma

The Green Bay Packers have no immediate need for a quarterback, as Aaron Rodgers proved once again in 2016 that he is one of the best signal-callers in the NFL. However, there was no immediate need for a quarterback when the team drafted him late in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft, so it would not shock me if they went quarterback with their pick in 2018. The Packers figure to make a deep run to the Super Bowl next season, and finding their future QB may be the play this late in round one.

For all his issues off the field this offseason, there is still no doubt that Baker Mayfield is one of the best quarterbacks this draft class has to offer. A Heisman finalist a year ago, Mayfield has been incredible since arriving on campus, continuing the solid football tradition at Oklahoma. Green Bay needs to start thinking about life after Rodgers, and Mayfield would be a quality quarterback for him to hand the reins to a few years down the line.

Green Bay has a lot of holes on their roster, and they could certainly grab a cornerback or running back with this pick next year. However, if Mayfield is available, he is far too talent to be passed up, especially  towards the end of the first round. He does have a ton of question marks, including his size, but there is no questioning his ability to fit the ball in places that most people on this planet cannot.
