Derwin James

S, Florida State

With their first round pick in 2017, the Buffalo Bills filled a huge need, drafting Tre’Davious White from LSU. White is a standout cornerback, and instantly makes the Bills better in the defensive backfield. In 2018, the Bills will likely be picking in the top-10 of the draft once again, and they should look to continue to bolster their secondary with that selection.

The 2016 college football season did not work out the way James would have liked, as he suffered a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee against Charleston Southern early in the year. Despite the nasty injury, James is ready to go for the Seminoles, who may challenge for a spot in the College Football Playoff this season. The Bills need help at safety, and in James, they will be getting a kid that may be the best overall football player in next year’s draft.

James showed the kind of player he is in Week 1 last year, earning ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors after racking up 8 tackles, and his first career interception against then-No. 11 Ole Miss. He was a Freshman All-American in 2015, and was expected to lead the Seminoles secondary last season. He is one of those players who can change a game on any given play, and with the Bills having a solid draft in 2017, all signs point to them eventually turning this thing around with first-year head coach Sean McDermott behind the wheel.
