Tarvarus McFadden

CB, Florida State

The Los Angeles Rams had no first round pick in 2017, as they traded that pick away last year in order to grab the No. 1 pick from the Tennessee Titans. That pick was used on quarterback Jared Goff, and while the rookie did not do much to warrant that pick in his first season, the plan is to stick with him for the foreseeable future. The Rams need to get it right with their first round pick in 2018, and selecting a player like Tarvarus McFadden is as safe a bet as there is in this draft.

McFadden arrived at Florida State for the 2015 season, and played a bit as a freshman on special teams and on defense. Last season, McFadden emerged as one of the best cornerbacks in college football, and likely would have been the first corner off the board in this year’s draft if he was eligible. McFadden tied for the lead in the country in interceptions (8), while being named a finalist for the Bronco Nagurski Award, which is given to the nation’s best defensive player.

Of those eight interceptions, McFadden did his work against some of the best quarterbacks in the country. McFadden picked off Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson, with Watson being a Heisman finalist, and Jackson winning the award. The Rams need playmakers on the defensive side of the ball, and if they do have McFadden available to them when they draft, he would instantly be a leader in their defensive secondary as a first-day starter at cornerback.
