10. Detroit Tigers (Home)

Famously (at least in uniform circles) the Detroit Tigers have a different Old English D on their caps and helmets than the one featured on the home jersey. Despite the inconsistency, the Tigers have one of the best looking home uniforms in Major League Baseball.

More often than not, it’s best for major league teams to keep their uniforms as simple as possible – especially those among the earliest in their respective leagues. An original member of the American League in 1901, the Tigers have done a great job of keeping things simple uniform-wise since the early days of the franchise.

Detroit first introduced an Old English D as its primary logo in 1904. The two versions in use today – the cap logo, and the jersey logo – have both been part of the organization since 1922. They might not match, but they both look good, and fall under the category of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” With crisp white pants and jerseys and dark navy blue caps and piping, the Tigers have thankfully avoided trying to fix an unbroken combination since 1934.

Sadly, the Tigers look much worse on the road. Swapping out a white Old English D for an orange version is fine. However, the powers that be insist on inserting orange into the road uniform, along with white, as an outline for the script “Detroit” on the front of the jersey, which is a big step back. A road gray version of the home uniform, with a navy Old English D on the left breast, would be best.
